How it works

Three steps to a finished deliverable

Define the work, pick your attorney, and approve the result. Quality applicants arrive within minutes, and you pay as you go, settling up only once the work is done right.

1

Post a project

Define the scope, upload supporting documents, and set the flat fee and deadline, typically one to two weeks, for the completed deliverable.

2

Review & select talent

Examine profiles, resumes, and reviews from applying attorneys. Agree on terms and choose the right fit.

3

Work & payment

Your card is charged at assignment and the fee sits in escrow. Review the final draft within a 96-hour window, request revisions if needed, and accept to release payment.

How it's priced

One flat fee. You set it. We hold it

No hourly tracking, no surprises. You name the price when you post, your card is charged at assignment into escrow, and funds release only once you approve the finished work.

Fixed flat fee

You define the price when you post; applicants can propose alternate rates and you choose. No hourly meter, no overruns.

Escrowed via Stripe

Your card is charged when you assign the associate, processed by Stripe, and funds release only after you accept the completed work.

Timecard for billing

You receive a timecard for the project so you can re-bill your own client cleanly and transparently.

Two-tier conflicts check

A two-step conflicts process plus a dedicated LAWCLERK Advisor keeps every engagement clean and compliant.

How to price a project

Estimate the hours and multiply by an hourly equivalent, roughly $100/hour entry-level to $175+/hour for partner-level work, or price at about 40% of the estimated client billable value. Applicants can also propose alternate rates and you choose.

Project engagements, explained

What is a project engagement?

A project engagement is a short-term, fixed-scope assignment you hand to a freelance attorney for a single flat fee: an appellate brief, a contract review, a discovery response, and the like, typically on a one-to-two-week deadline you set. No hourly billing and no long-term commitment.

How do I post a project?

Describe the scope of work, upload any supporting documents, and set the flat fee you're willing to pay. Verified attorneys begin applying within minutes.

How is the price set?

You set a fixed flat fee when you post; applicants can propose alternate rates and you choose. A common guide is estimated hours × an hourly equivalent, roughly $100/hour entry-level to $175+/hour partner-level, or about 40% of the estimated client billable value.

When does the attorney get paid?

Your card is charged when you assign the associate, processed by Stripe, and the fee is held in escrow. Payment releases only after you review the deliverable and accept it as complete. You can request revisions before approving.

How do I close a completed project?

The associate uploads the final draft to the platform and an Accept & Complete button appears, opening a 96-hour review window. Accepting releases the escrowed fee and closes the project, and you receive the associate's timecard for client billing.

Can I change the price or deadline?

Yes. Edit the posting to increase the price (the associate confirms the scope change) or adjust the deadline, and communicate the change so they confirm availability. Prices can be increased but not lowered after posting.

What if I'm not satisfied with the work?

Start with direct feedback; most issues resolve with a revision. If not, submit a dispute through the platform before accepting. Disputes address incomplete scope, not quality judgments, and are decided on the posting's clarity and industry standards.

How is this different from an Hourly Associate?

A Hourly Associate is billed by the hour for ongoing support. A project engagement is a single deliverable at a fixed flat fee, best when the scope is well-defined and you want a predictable cost.

What kinds of work are a good fit?

Anything with a clear deliverable and defined scope: appellate briefs, MSJs, oppositions and replies, memos, lease and contract reviews, purchase agreements, discovery responses, research, and content drafting, across every practice area.

How do I know the attorneys are qualified?

Every attorney cleared five gates before appearing: U.S. bar admission in good standing, email confirmation, government-ID verification through Persona, and a bar license confirmed with the issuing jurisdiction by LAWCLERK staff. Only then does a profile go live. See the full verification process →
